They may never enjoy centre stage alongside the singers and drag artists, but our SecuriPods have become a part of the show at the forthcoming Derby Pride event – and they’re set for another appearance.
We will be on duty bright and early on Saturday morning to install six of our IWA 14-rated temporary HVM barrier units across the street to protect revellers attending the event, which is the biggest LGBT street party in the county and takes place later in the day.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event, which is promising to stage the biggest and best-ever line-up in its history to coincide with its commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the start of the global LGBT+ movement.
It is the third year running that the Pride event has used our SecuriPods HVM devices, which are capable of bringing any vehicle, including an 18-tonne truck, to a controlled stop in a matter of seconds.
As in previous years, they will be placed behind the event stage and close to where the street hosting the event meets a busy four-way junction, giving organisers peace of mind and protection.
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “Derby Pride was the first event we installed our SecuriPods at and so we’re proud to have been invited back for the third-year running.
“In that time, we have refined the design to ensure that they are the most effective and easiest to install defences of their type on the market. As a result, they will take us a matter of minutes to install and remove, while they can be easily moved out of the way if access for emergency vehicles is required.
“Security at outdoor street festivals is key to ensuring that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time. Our SecuriPods will stop any vehicle driven with hostile intent from gaining access, without preventing pedestrians, cyclists and parents with pushchairs from joining the party.”
Each pod measures just 79cm high and weighs 450kg, which is considerably lighter than concrete blocks, making them easier and cheaper to transport. They can also be supplied in different colours and – unlike other similar temporary HVM products – can be fitted with an integral floral display.
