It’s one of the biggest sporting get-togethers in the Yorkshire calendar, and we were on hand to ensure everyone could celebrate Doncaster’s Betfred St Leger festival safely last week.
Hosted at the Doncaster Racecourse, the event attracts around 50,000 people across the four days, the majority of who arrive in their most fashionable and finest outfits.
Greeting them outside both entrances to the racecourse were two rows of our Securipods, our unique HVM innovations designed to foil vehicle-borne attacks on people gathering in public spaces.
We used 48 of our Securipods in total and linked them with cables to create two unbreakable barriers each capable of bringing a vehicle as big as an 18-tonne truck to a controlled and complete halt without using heavy concrete or inserting bolts into the road surface and without impeding the progress of punters as they headed to the turnstiles.
It was the first time our Securipods were used at Doncaster and we were delighted with how seamlessly the deployment of the pods – which were all delivered on the back of one HGV – progressed, with both the installation and removal processes taking around an hour each.
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “Our SecuriPods have been seen all over the country but this was the first time we’d deployed them for the Betfred St Leger Festival.
“They’re designed to be light and portable and although we took every pod we possess, they all fitted on the back of a single HGV while we drove up in our pickup separately with our forklift in tow.
“Things couldn’t have gone smoother and it’s great to know that people of Doncaster could enjoy their festival and wear their finest outfits in total peace of mind.”
