SecuriPods Make a Return to Derby’s Market Place To Keep Diners Safe Until Christmas

They made sure that thousands of outdoor diners in Derby’s Market Place could enjoy their meals in peace and quiet last year and we’re delighted to say our SecuriPod temporary HVM barriers have been installed in time for another summer season – complete with a colourful face lift.

Ten of the units, which are designed to prevent vehicles accessing locations being used for public outdoor events, have been placed close to an access road leading onto the Market Place to protect the city’s al fresco meeting and eating space from unwanted intruders.

The attraction was first set up last year to provide local restaurants and bars with a way to serve customers who were banned from their premises due to the coronavirus social distancing measures.

It proved to be a runaway success and so the organisers, Derby City Council, has brought it back for 2021 – only this time it will be in place until December.

The attraction comprises of a series of huts and wooden tables surrounded by a perimeter fence covered in colourful branding, which has also been extended to our Securipods for 2021, ensuring that they complement the event without diminishing the all-important safety of those enjoying their meals.

Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “The al fresco eating experience turned what was a negative into a positive by giving an outdoor flavour to Derby’s eating-out scene which was enjoyed by thousands of people last year.

“It’s great to see it return and we’re very pleased to have been asked to supply our Securipods again to provide cost-effective protection for the rest of the year.”

It took Securiscape two years to bring the SecuriPods to market and they can also incorporate a floral display or come supplied in different colours to match the branding of the event they are being used to protect.

The devices have been used at a host of outdoor events since they were launched a few years ago, including street festivals in Derby and Hackney, the Nottingham Open Tennis tournament and Christmas events in Lancaster and Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.
