As with any high profile venue which brings thousands of people together, safety is always the top priority when you operate one of the UK’s leading sports stadia.
That’s why recently a top Midlands football club contacted Securiscape to request that a series of cast-iron bollards protecting its glass-fronted reception area be upgraded to prevent a vehicle-borne attack.
The request would also involve the installation of a defence mechanism which could prevent unwanted vehicles from entering the stadium through a service entrance beneath one of the stands, where maintenance staff and workers maintaining the pitch are granted access for their machinery.
Over a two-week installation programme, our installers first removed the stadium’s existing bollards and replaced them 21 PAS 68-rated steel bollards, all finished in a smart flat-topped shroud painted to match the stadium’s colour scheme.
Protection for the service entrance, just around the corner, was provided through the first-ever installation of our manual rise and fall blockout kerb.
The most cost-efficient product of its type on the market, our kerbs are designed and manufactured by Securiscape and have been rigorously tested to the PAS 68:2010 standard at renowned test facility MIRA.
Perfect for locations where there is no electricity supply, the kerbs can be lowered to ground level to enable a vehicle to pass through the access point and then raised into position afterwards, presenting an impregnable barrier for unwelcome visitors seeking unauthorised access to the stadium – and all in less than 10 seconds.
For extra convenience and to save time, they are designed to be surface-mounted, although are also available as a cassette system.

“This was the reason why the football club sought to upgrade its cast-iron bollards, which would simply shatter if impacted by a vehicle, to our high security PAS 68 products and also to protect its busy service entrance.
“Located beneath a stand without a power supply, the entrance was the perfect opportunity for us to debut our rise and fall blockout kerb.”
