They are becoming more and more familiar sights on London’s streets and we made a return to the capital recently to install five of our PAS 68 hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) security planters outside a hotel.

The installation follows a visit to London last year, when we installed seven PAS 68 HVM planters to protect the entrance to Brent Borough Council’s new civic centre, which provides office space for 2,000 council employees and houses the borough’s library just close by.
Once again, the security planters, which measure 1.4m square and are finished in brushed stainless steel, were placed in a row to act as a barrier to any vehicle used as part of an attack without impeding the progress of pedestrians, parents with pushchairs or wheelchair-users.
Although to passers-by they look nothing more than a row of stylish designer planters, finished off with a low-maintenance display of ivies and evergreens, underneath the shroud lurks a high-tech steel framework which surrounds a tough polyethylene planter.
This is strong enough to stop a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 40mph in its tracks –performance which has earned the planters their coveted PAS 68-2010 standard.
