It is one of Birmingham’s most iconic landmarks, and this year the Millennium Point development took steps to make itself even safer – by fitting two of our most advanced HVM security products.
Three of our ingenious SecuriPod IWA14 temporary barriers and six metres of our IWA14 rated HVM pedestrian guardrails have now been put in place across a boulevard leading through a green space at Millennium Point, which is one of the city’s best-known meeting and conference venues.
The venue’s operators came to us because they wanted to prevent vehicles driving along the boulevard from a car park without restricting pedestrians or ruining the look of their award-winning landscaping.
It marked the first-ever installation for our metal HVM guardrails after we launched them last year as a method of preventing vehicles from mounting pavements and causing harm and fatalities.
They are capable of stopping a 2.5 tonne vehicle travelling at 30mph but still look identical to normal pedestrian guardrails which, since they are designed only to prevent pedestrians from accessing the road, do not have the same robust capability.
Our SecuriPods, meanwhile, have previously been used at a growing number of outdoor public events, where they have been used to temporarily close off roads without impeding the progress of pedestrians.
Consisting of a series of boxes linked together by chains, they are able to bring a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 30mph to a halt without needing to be embedded into the surface of the road.
This time – and in another first – they are being used as permanent installations at Millennium Point and have been finished off with a stainless steel shroud, branding and a floral display.

Securiscape was set up 13 years ago and we also manufacture and supply a range of security street furniture, including ballistic litter bins and PAS 68 permanent street planters capable of stopping a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 40kph.
Our planters have been installed outside a host of buildings across the UK, including Birmingham’s New Street station and the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
