With the asking price of a penthouse set at £140m and views across Knightsbridge, One Hyde Park, the Candy Brothers™ high-profile development, is undoubtedly the most prestigious address in the UK.
A glance at the retail units on the bottom floor is also an indication that this is the playground of the rich and famous, with McLaren, Rolex and the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank the signs above the shop doors.
In front of the retail units, and adding a stylish finishing touch to the development, are 14 PAS68 planters supplied by Securiscape to create a robust barrier to protect staff, residents and the property on display.
Rigorously subjected to a series of horizontal impact tests involving a range of vehicles, from pick-up trucks to 7.5 ton lorries travelling at up to 40mph, the PAS68 planters consist of a self-watering polyethylene planter filled with compost and planted with greenery, housed inside the protective shield of a strengthened steel core fixed securely into the surface of the pavement.
One Hyde Park’s planters are in turn contained within a decorative brushed stainless steel shroud, which conceals the inner metalwork and gives the planters a designer appearance without a hint of their defensive role.
The installation took place five years ago and the planters and their display look as good as the day they were fixed in place, with our design team overcoming the tricky problem of having to mount the planters onto a sloping pavement by designing each one individually.
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “One Hyde Park is a landmark address in London and everything on the development was designed and installed to the very highest standard, whether it is there to fulfil a function or add to the overall appearance.
“Our PAS68 planters fulfil both of these roles because while they create a reassuring barrier to prevent a vehicle-borne attack, they continue to give a smart finishing touch to the apartment buildings at street level.
“One Hyde Park was our first installation and gave our company one of its earliest proud moments. Five years on, they are still proof that with imagination, technology and design you can protect even the world’s most exclusive apartments without turning them into a fortress.”
