New-generation security fencing which can stand up to a collision with a vehicle without standing out like a sore thumb has been installed outside one of London’s most popular and trendy food, drink and shopping destinations.
Fifty metres of UK security product manufacturers Securiscape’s new HVM pedestrian guardrail has been put in place either side of the entrance to Gabriel’s Wharf, a collection of shops and eateries on London’s South Bank.
Designed, tested and made in the UK, the guardrail has received its IWA-14 rating, having been proven to be capable of stopping a 2.5 tonne pick-up truck travelling at 30mph.
It is the only fencing of its kind in the UK and it has an added decorative function, with each the panels – there are 25 in all – made in a heritage-style design and finished with a smart black power-coated finish.
Securiscape launched the fencing last year and is now busy installing it at other locations across the country, including most recently beside a busy dual-carriageway on Sheffield.
It has also installed a length of the fencing outside the new Silverstone Experience museum at Silverstone racetrack in Northamptonshire, whose motoring heritage is reflected in the distinctive slanted bars designed to resemble the wire hub caps found on classic British sports cars.

“Usually fencing like this is used to prevent access for people but it is not strong enough to hold back a vehicle which has mounted the pavement either deliberately or accidentally.
“Our guardrail has that capability, but what makes it special is that it can made to order to ensure that it blends in or complements its surroundings, whether they have a heritage feel or an ultra-modern design.”
Based in Derbyshire, Securiscape has designed, manufactured and installed a wide range of outdoor security products designed to save lives and protect property from hostile attacks.
They include reinforced bollards and street furniture, blast-resistant litter bins and its ingenious IWA-14 rated SecuriPods, a temporary defence which can be installed in minutes to protect pedestrians attending outdoor events.
Its most recent invention is the Glide Bollard, an ingenious and cost-effective system whereby bollards can be slid in and out of position across a roadway to control access for vehicles.
