Thousands of ale-lovers were able to enjoy peace of mind alongside their brews when we installed our temporary HVM SecuriPod street barriers on the perimeter of a major outdoor beer festival.
The organisers of the Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival 2018 requested that four of the IWA-rated devices, which can bring vehicles to a controlled stop in seconds, were placed at the entrance to Bolero Square, the event’s temporary home outside the front of the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.
More than 1,000 different beers, including craft and rare beers, were on offer to attendees, who were also able to enjoy stalls, bars and live music at the event, which ran from October 17 to 20.
However, unbeknownst to the vast majority of the crowd who congregated in the square, the SecuriPods were also in position to prevent vehicles from accessing Bolero Square without impeding the progress of pedestrians, parents with pushchairs and wheelchair users.
The devices were not fixed into the ground but instead use a system which involves a steel frame hidden beneath a tough recycled polyethylene covering. Measuring just 79cm tall, they take just a matter of minutes to install and remove.
Stephen Chaston, head of operations at the Motorpoint Arena, said: “The SecuriPods were installed two days before the event began as a temporary solution given the change in use of the square and have given us time to source a permanent solution going forward.
“Although surrounded by fencing for the event itself, we had plenty of comments from people who knew they were there and appreciated that they were in place to provide protection.
“These days it’s important for people to know that we are actively putting measures like SecuriPods in place to cover every eventuality.”
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “Our SecuriPods have been fully tested and can offer an effective defence against a determined attack or accidental collision to any four-wheeled vehicle, small or large."
“They can still act as a cost-effective protective device that helps people to feel safe and secure while they are enjoying themselves.”
"Our Street furniture provides a practical answer to protecting people and property and include benches, seats, tree surrounds, bicycle racks and more. In fact, 100's of applications"
