It was a proud day all round when we completed the first installation of our SecuriPods for a city’s LGBT event weekend – and gave the organisers complete peace of mind.
It took us just 40 minutes to install five of our SecuriPods to provide a barrier for traffic across a busy street in Derby, ahead of the Derby Pride 2017 event later that day.
The event featured a parade through the city but culminated in a day-long street party, with music acts, fairground rides and stalls for the hundreds of revellers to enjoy.
Our SecuriPods were installed across the street behind the stage – out of sight but not out of mind for event organiser Andy Brown, who said that they helped everyone feel at ease.
He added: “As soon as I saw the SecuriPods in place I felt a wave of relief, because I realised that the event was protected as much as possible.
“Thankfully nothing happened, but in this day and age you can’t take any risks and having them there moved a real weight off our shoulders.
“Quite a few people were talking about them and it was amazing to see them lined up.”
The SecuriPods measure seven foot tall and are linked by steel cables, which are designed to wrap around a vehicle’s axles and will bring it to a halt. In tests, they brought an 18-tonne truck travelling at 20mph safely to a halt in just five metres.
Mark Stone, managing director of Securiscape, said: “We were extremely pleased to be asked to install the SecuriPods and seeing them in place so soon after bringing them to market was a proud moment.
“There is no doubt that in the current climate, many people might think twice about attending an outdoor event, so while this was a perfect live demonstration for us of how easy they are to install, we also learned more about how their presence can help to put people’s minds at ease, even if, thankfully, they were never called into action.”
Securiscape was set up 12 years ago and also manufactures and supplies a range of security street furniture, including defensive planters and bomb-proof litter bins.
Our planters have been installed outside a host of buildings across the UK, including Birmingham’s New Street station and One Hyde Park and the Royal Courts of Justice in London.
"Our Street furniture provides a practical answer to protecting people and property and include benches, seats, tree surrounds, bicycle racks and more. In fact, 100's of applications"
